CHAPTER 14
BRAD
My heart was practically beating out of my chest as I stared down at Cassie under me. She was breathing hard too, her lips beautifully swollen from our kisses, and our skin covered in sweat. I had no words to describe that moment, but it was something. Something Iâd never experienced before.
I slid off her and laid down next to her, our shoulders touching. I worried Iâd done wrong, sleeping with an employee, but she soon shifted to her side, and her hand came across my stomach. When I looked at her, she was smiling, leaning up on her elbow as she looked at me.
âWell,â she said, with a flare of her eyes that was now growing familiar.
âWell,â I said back with a chuckle, glad to not see the look of regret on her face.
I reached out to brush my fingertip along her hairline and down her jaw. She really was singularly beautiful. One might easily see it when you first looked at her, but then when you looked again, you were surprised, as if youâd forgotten how beautiful she really was. Those gray eyes, full of fierceness and strength. That mouth, always full of the right words.
There werenât really any words to say. Barriers had broken between us, even though I had a feeling that new ones would be built up again.
âYou good?â I asked, lacking the right words.
âYep.â A lazy smile crossed her face. âVery good.â She leaned over to kiss me, and this time, it was slow and thorough.
I could feel myself coming to life again, and a few minutes later, I was ready. When I was inside her once more, she came again like she did before, practically unraveling in my arms, and I felt pretty unraveled myself.
âShit,â I said after the second time.
I laid back and put a hand over my chest to feel the speed of my heart.
âDoc Fox is truly insatiable,â she said, laughing and sitting up on the bed, pushing a pillow behind her.
âFor you? Yeah.â I sat next to her, and then I realized I should go.
Camilla would be waiting for me. I didnât want to leave, and I hoped Cassie wouldnât be upset that I was just going to skip out.
âLook, Iââ
âYouâve got to go. I know. Youâve got a kid.â She patted my arm. âI get it. Donât worry about it.â
More words wanted to come out, but I didnât know what to say. Honestly, Iâd never been so shocked by an experience with another human being that it literally wiped the words from my brain.
âThanks.â I slid out of bed and slowly got dressed.
She watched me, and when I was ready, I leaned down to kiss her. âIâll see you later,â I was able to muster, but I knew it wasnât quite enough.
âSee you.â She stayed in bed while I left, and then I was out the door, calling a cab, thinking about my life choices.
When I got home, Andrea waved to me when she stood up.
âAll good, Boss.
